Wrexham’s Remarkable Rise: Why Now’s the Time to Visit – and Stay at Lion Quays Resort

History has been made! For the third consecutive season, Wrexham AFC Promotion to Championship — this time to the top tier of the EFL. What began as a Hollywood-flavoured underdog story has evolved into a genuine footballing fairy tale, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to offer our warmest congratulations to the club, the city, and, of course, the legendary owners: Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

A Story Like No Other

Just three years ago, the idea of Wrexham AFC Promotion to Championship and battling it out in the premier EFL table might have sounded far-fetched. But with strong leadership, unwavering community support, and a sprinkle of star power, the Red Dragons have soared through the leagues with unstoppable momentum.

This promotion marks Wrexham’s first time in the Championship since it was rebranded in 2004, and it's an extraordinary achievement. According to the EFL’s official website, if Wrexham go up, the 2025/26 season will begin the weekend of August 8–10. The season will be spread across 33 weekends, nine midweeks, and four Bank Holidays — meaning plenty of opportunities to catch the action live.

Thanks to global exposure through the hit docuseries Welcome to Wrexham on Disney+, the club’s incredible journey has captured hearts far beyond the UK — especially across the United States, where fans are now booking flights to North Wales to see it all unfold in real time.

A Moment to Remember: Tom Meets Ryan

One of our proudest moments? When Tom from the Lion Quays team met Ryan Reynolds in person at the stadium!  It’s not every day you bump into a Hollywood A-lister while supporting your local club — but that’s part of what makes this story so special. Ryan and Rob’s down-to-earth approach and genuine connection with the city has brought a new level of excitement to match days in Wrexham.
